Poker Cats, 2022

Ricardo Passaporte (b. 1987) is a Portuguese artist based in Lisbon whose work draws on outsider art and graffiti to explore the symbolic nature of found images and everyday objects. 'Poker Cats', rendered in black and charcoal, depicts two cats locked in a game of poker, a commentary on the dichotomy between the mass-produced and the uniquely singular. Playful yet deadpan, it finds meaning in repetition, where authorship lies in the hand that draws it again.
