Small but Mighty, 2021

Mabintou Badjie (b. 1990) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice centres on oil painting, exploring identity, heritage and belonging through everyday rituals and relationships. 'Small but Mighty', an ode to Badjie's younger siblings, captures a moment at the playground sharing snacks, dressed in green, referencing the tradition of asobi, and surrounded by pink, a symbol of love. Playful yet symbolic, it finds culture in colour, where belonging lies in the smallest gestures shared.
