Ezcaramuzas en Pico Rivera, CA, 2021

Carlos Jaramillo (b. 1988) is a Mexican-Colombian American photographer based in LA whose work explores identity and heritage through ritual, fashion and cultural environment. Shot at El Clásico de las Américas, a charreada in Pico Rivera in California, this image captures a prized cultural rodeo-like sport he had heard of but never experienced growing up. Falling in love with the colours, outfits and gear, he set out to highlight the subjects' beauty and power.
