Artist FAQs

1. Rights & Ownership

What rights do I retain over my artwork once it's uploaded to Caart?

You retain ownership of your artwork, including intellectual property rights.

By uploading your artwork to Caart, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to use the artwork for creating, marketing, and selling greeting cards, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.

Do I need to provide exclusive rights to Caart for my artwork?

No, you do not need to grant exclusive rights to Caart.

However, if you plan to or currently sell the same artwork as a greeting card, postcard or small format print (A5 or smaller) on other platforms, you must notify us at info@caart.studio.

Can I remove my artwork from Caart’s platform if I change my mind?

Yes, you can terminate the agreement with Caart by providing a 30-day written notice to info@caart.studio.

After the notice period, your artwork will be removed from our platform.

What if someone else claims ownership of my artwork on Caart?

In the rare event of a dispute over ownership, Caart will work closely with you to resolve the issue. When artists upload their artwork, they agree to our Terms and Conditions, which confirm that they hold the rights to the work.

If a third party makes a claim, we will investigate the matter and support you in addressing it. As stated in our terms, if the claim is found to be valid and proven to be an infringement, you may be responsible for any legal costs or damages.

However, we will make every effort to assist and mediate before it reaches that point.

2. Earnings & Payments

How are the profits shared when my artwork is sold as a greeting card?

If a sale comes through your referral, you will receive 75% of the net profits.

For sales generated by Caart's marketing efforts, you will receive 50% of the net profits.

What exactly are "net profits"?

Net profits are the amount left after all necessary costs have been deducted from the sale price.

These costs include production expenses (like printing and materials), VAT, transaction fees, shipping, any promotional discounts, and a small processing fee that covers platform maintenance and order fulfilment.

How much will I actually earn for each card sold?

As an example, our open edition cards are priced at £15. After removing VAT, the income is £12.50.

Once production and other costs are covered, the remaining net profit is £7.80.

If a sale is made through your referral, you’ll earn 75% of that profit (£5.31). For sales generated through Caart’s marketing, you’ll earn 50% (£3.54).

How do I know if a sale was referred by me?

Each artist receives a unique referral link.

When a customer makes a purchase through that link, it is automatically tracked and attributed to you, ensuring you receive the appropriate share of the profits.

How are payments made to artists, and when can I expect them?

Payments are made via PayPal within the first ten working days of each month.

You'll receive a monthly sales report detailing your earnings from the month previous.

How can I increase my earnings through Caart’s platform?

The best way to maximise your earnings is to actively promote your unique referral link.

The more sales generated through your link, the higher your share of the profits (75% of net profits for artist-referred sales).

Do I need to pay any fees to list my artwork on Caart?

No, there are no upfront fees to list your artwork on Caart. We handle all the production, marketing, and sales logistics at no cost to you.

Your earnings are purely based on the sales of your artwork.

3. Marketing & Promotion

Will my artwork be used in Caart’s marketing or promotional materials?

Yes, we may feature your artwork in our marketing campaigns, social media, and other promotions to help drive sales.

Participating in our marketing efforts helps showcase your work to a wider audience, boosting both visibility and sales.

Do I have to participate in marketing and promotional activities?

While not mandatory, we encourage artists to engage in promotional activities to maximise their exposure and sales.

Participation can also lead to higher referral-based earnings.

Can I decide the price for my cards?

We always aim to price our cards fairly to benefit both the artist and the customer. Most cards are initially listed at our standard open edition price, currently set at £15.

However, we’re open to opportunities for limited or special editions, where we can have a direct conversation with artists to explore special pricing.

What happens if my artwork becomes highly popular on Caart?

If your artwork gains popularity, that’s great news! We’ll reach out to discuss potential opportunities, such as creating limited editions or special collaborations, to maximise its success.

We’re always open to exploring ways to help your work reach an even wider audience and make the most of its popularity.

4. Artwork Standards & Quality

What quality standards do you expect for uploaded artwork?

We require all artwork to meet specific quality standards suitable for gallery-quality prints.

If your submission does not meet these criteria, we may ask you to revise or update the artwork.

What happens if a customer returns a card featuring my artwork?

Caart handles all customer returns and refunds. If a return is due to a production issue, such as printing or shipping problems, we’ll cover the cost.

However, if the return is because the artwork doesn’t meet our agreed quality standards, we may ask you to make adjustments to the artwork for future sales.
