THE STORY
Adeche Atelier, storytellers of African mythology, capture Mũmbi, mother and creator of the Gĩkũyũ people of Central Kenya. Her name, “one who moulds,” reflects her role as the matriarch who birthed nine daughters, the ancestors of the Kikuyu clans. Alongside Gĩkũyũ, Mũmbi is the foundation of the Kikuyu lineage. This artwork honours Mũmbi’s strength, ambition, and the powerful legacy of Mothers.
