Bert Frings (b. 1972) is a Rotterdam-based artist inspired by objects, found materials and memory. ‘Wild Fire’ depicts a disposable lighter printed with a horse, a tossed-away object carrying a dream-selling symbol. The tension between consumption and lingering meaning gives the painting its quiet charge. Created during the California wildfires, it sets an emblem of rugged freedom against a country literally and metaphorically burning. Presented as part of CAART x Minor Attractions, 2026.
